Big meet...wish me luck

So today I have a big swim meet. And I have some pretty tough competition:

My last best time in the 100 yard breastroke was 1:07.14. That was in 1995 when I was a Junior in high school at age 17.

Today, almost 10 years later, 1:07.14 is the time to beat. I am competing today with a 17-year-old me.

So my actual best time (I looked up my old records) was 1:07.89.

Today I went 1:09.52. So just a bit over 1.5 seconds slower than my 17-year-old perfectly fit, tapered, shaved, and massaged self.

Not bad, eh?

dude thats great , but dont think youre over the hill yet, I have no doubt that you could still come back and beat that record at your age / stage

Hey, I get to gloat. Not many guys pushing 30 get to provide objective evidence that they're in basically the same condition they were in when they were 17.

I showed that 17-year-old punk a thing or two yesterday. He'll respect his elders now.

good job! I know how you could beat your old time, though: once, my friend was swimming breaststroke, which is her worst stroke, but when her (incredibly hot) coach, who was standing at the end of her lane, took off his shirt, she shot forward and, like, doubled her speed! now, if we can just figure out how to get him up to Michigan...

What makes me swim faster is the "rabbit in the dog race" trick. If I have someone swimming just in the corner of my eye, I can race them. Had 17-year-old me been swimming next to 27-year-old me, I might have only lost to myself by a half body length (much less than a second). Hot people standing at the end of the lane just don't do anything for me.

Then, I would have sat 17-year-old me down and had a long talk about general advice covering the next 10 years.

Lol - yeah whatever flashy I'm turning 29 (now that IS pushing 30 - not that I care). I've just started doing gymnastics again and I reckon I'm going to be a lot better at it this time round than I was when I was 14. But then again, I never was a very good gymnast...

Everyone in our group can pull standing back somersaults cept me and Kate, now its time to even the score.
