It's my birthday in oct, and I'm after glowpoi. I've informed my mother of this, and was met with much over the phone....

I will have bday money from both her and my dad (The joys of divorced parents ) and so I'm looking at somewhere between £60-80 on glow poi.

I've seen loads of different sites, but i don't know what is the best value for that price range. Anyone who has used glowpoi, what are your opinions on the best ones to buy?

I coudl also add some of my own money and make it more

Lynne

Mmmmmmm GloPoi.

Off the top of my head, here's a list of glo poi, and if I know them - the prices

Beaming Poi ~ £27
Electroglow ~ £40
Balls-u-like / Rainbow Poi ~ £25
Aerotech GloBalls in nets ~ £60 - £88
A'tech GloBall Pro's in nets ~ £110 - £200
A'tech GloMeteor ~ £130 - £190
Feraltec GloPoi ~ £?
Neon Husky ~ £?
Glow ball Poi (From Firetoys) ~ £40
Tubular Glow Poi (Firetoys) ~ £35

As to best to buy...
~ I own Beamers and GloMeteors and love them both.
~ The Rainbow Poi are nice to use, they strobe and a decent price
~ I've never been a fan of electroglows, I find them too light and not bright enough. They have apparently bought out a strobing rainbow version though

The others, I haven't used

Second Durbs recommendation. I bought some Strobe poi at Glade festival - I like them lots - far more than electroglo's I had and sadly lost! But happily I've got my glo back again : )

http://www.ballsulike.biz/ Won't break the bank either

The Feraltech poi work out at about £120 with an adaptor n stuff and aerotech are bringin out some glo poi instead of just the meteors at the end of summer.

The site's a bit messed up at moment and seems to resize the scrolling windows to silly sizes - you just have to scroll slowly.

The staff looks cool!

I quite like the ballsulike strobe poi

To start with i guess I'll need something fairly soft; still prone to smacking myself, so although i like some of the others, i think solid poi are probably not the way to go for now!

Thanks for the info

The new Rainbow electroglow are actually quite nice to look at, but I still don't like spinning them

The Balls-U-Like ones are fairly soft and smell nice too

Neonhusky's got some nice glowballs..They come in 10 different colours, and are made of somewhat soft plastic, so hitting yourself won't suck as much as something hard would.
Now, you need to provide your own chains for these if you don't have a set of chains already. But chains are easy to find, lots of places have them for sale, including here.

And now, HOP's got those glowbug poi, but I don't know much about those.

Glo-Toobs are by far the best value I have found so far. They do suffer from a couple deficiencies (need bigger attachment hole and they occasionally - but not too often - turn themselves of due to the nature of the switch), but they are tough as nails, last a good long time on fairly cheap batteries, they are about the brightest I've ever seen, and buying a pair won't break the bank (they'll definitely fit in your budget).

what they will break is your knuckles, kneecaps, etc. So what I did was cover them with silicon tubing and then glopped lots of silicon gel on top of that to coushin them so now I am not afraid of them anymore.

People talk and talk about which is the best glo-poi, but I don't listen anymore, as I have have found all I need in glo-toobs. I've had a set for a year now - use them a lot, and they are still working flawlessly and have only gone thru like 5 sets of batteries!

Are you going to Pink...?'s gathering on the 5th of September? (see events thread - or maybe I should since you may have posted there already!) If so, I probably will be too, and you can check out my glo-toobs for yourself.

my girlfriend tells me that she has seen glo-toobs for as much as 50 euros (she is shopping for a set). Don't pay more than 30 euros for the basic ones (that don't have programed patterns), and I think you can find them for around $24 from places in the states. I got mine is South Africa for 150 rand (about 15 euros), though I knew an inside person at the time - they usually sold for 220 rand.

point is, shop around.

I got some great led glowsticks with 5 different flash settings from THE POUND SHOP!!! Theyre very brittle plastic though, so you have to wrap lots of sellotape around them to stop them shattering if they bash together. But they look wicked!

I've got some really cool looking strobe poi from Juggle Art
( http://www.juggleart.com ) in Australia.
They got 7 colours, are very bright, look absolutely great and are almost undestroyable.
They do hurt a lot when you hit yourself though.
They were 60 Euro including shipping to Europe I think that's about 40 pounds.
