From Channel 4 (UK) last night.

We (Manchester) came 10th ...
In the list of the worst places

I'm not sure that I understand the logic though. I can think of loads of places that are worse than manchester. I can't check how it was worked out as I'm still browsing through my phone (I hate Bulldog!)

Anyway - does anyone live anywhere that was on either list or think that where they live should be added to either list.

It would be interesting to hear peoples oppinions of where they live outside the UK.

ok well I didn't see this program because I get S4C not channel 4, but I just looked up the lists at

http://www.channel4.com/4homes/ontv/best&worst/

10 best

1. Winchester
2. Horsham
3. Tumbridge Wells
4. Harrogate
5. South Cambridgeshire
6. Orkney
7. East Hertfordshire
8. Epsom and Ewell
9. Eastleigh
10.West Dorset

Worst
1. Hackney
2. Tower Hamlets
3. Merthyr Tydfil
4. Newham
5. Islington
6. Middlesbrough
7. Nottingham
8. Strabane
9. Blaenau Gwent
10.Manchester

I'm suprised Swansea didn't make it in the worst list, but then again I suppose that the rebuilding thats going on would have got it brownie points and made it seem better than it is.

Hastings...

Where people steal our plants from the front garden.
Where people throw rocks through our windows.
Where you can't walk alone at night.
Where you have to watch out for the syringes on the beach.

Lovely place...

@ Dave hastings is a nice place to Visit though Aimee (true I wouldn't want to live there..now)

wow!

in that top ten - as a Kid I lived in Chessington (next to epsom and ewell and not much different I could spit out my window into West Ewell)

and now I live in southampton right next to eastleigh and close to winchester... I gravitate towards good places as should everyone else..Gravitate towards me until I have a car

Mynci, eat more and gravitating towards you will be a matter of physics rather than choice...

I have a friend who lives in Hackney. It's not too bad, never had any trouble when I went to visit, even walking there alone about 4am in the morning. Definitely worse places to live, like Leyland near Preston...

I found Hackney slightly scary, might've been all those police signs asking for rape witnesses to speak out...

Well, I work near islington and I can think of quite a few London boroughs that would be much worse places to live! Like where I live now, huge problems with crime and safety and pollution etc.

They judged it (apparently) on crime rates, pollution and a couple of other similar categories. That's how the Orkney Islands ended up in the top 10, hardly any crime or pollution plus residents get to see the Northern Lights.

Ball-spinning and firespinning get a place on their website. Seems like a circus-skill friendly place..

Yay for Eastleigh! Did they base it on council or town boundaries?

i agree! i live on the outskirts of harrogate, tis pretty chavvy and scary. there is however, an intermittent fire community. (intermittent in th esense that you sometimes see them and sometimes dont!) plus ther is the stray and the blues bar(well, just outside) to spin in!
