Last week, activists in America staged a remarkable one-day "virtual march"
on Washington, calling their elected officials and the White House to
express their opposition to a war in Iraq. The switchboards in Congress and
the White House were jammed for hours with calls from an estimated 1 million
Americans asking their representatives to stand up for peace.

And the success of the event made me wonder: why not do this in Britain?
Certainly it was encouraging to see 121 Labour MPs rebel against Tony
Blair's hawkish stance in a lively debate and vote in Parliament. But
clearly, Blair is still unswayed, and seems infuriatingly unwilling to
listen to the people -- more than a million of whom filled the streets of
London on 15 Feb. pleading for peace.

So I am asking you now to join me in a Virtual March on London. We've chosen
Monday 10 march and are asking you to commit to calling Parliament and
Number 10 Downing Street on that day to personally register your opposition
to the wrongheaded rush to war.

Everything you need to know is available on my web site, including
instructions on how to find the MP who represents you, phone numbers for
Parliament and 10 Downing Street, and a sample script for what to say when
you contact your representatives.

Did that "virtual march" do any good in the States?

Last I knew,even though the Iraqi's are starting to comply with the sanctions being laid before them,Bush's new thing is that the only way to avoid a war is for Saddam to step away from power in Iraq.You know it wouldn't surprise me if Saddam did step down and Bush continued to push for war anyway.Meanwhile North Korea gets more volatile every day.Oh and then they are all proud of themselves because thay caught that Mohammed guy but why on Earth would he be willing to give them any useful information?Or more importantly who actually believes that he would?I love how the propaganda machine is trying to make him out to be more important than Bin Laden.This whole situation is comical.

Anyhoo,don't mean to be a thread hijacker,so sorry for the rant.Hopefully the march will do more good in your country than it seems to be doing in ours.

I heard that the US/UK government are rewarding him £17 million pounds and giving him a new life here in the UK - just for info about Bin Laden

I'm glad the governments are taking such a hard stance on these terrorists.

what about a cyber sit down.....we all do a ping of death attack on the number 10 website....so it crashes...and in the time that its down...we get frost to jump in a write a little backdoor into the site.. (cgi exploit per chance?) and change the site to say something like "Say no to War"??

You have the right to protest, the freedome of speech, but this is borderline herassment.

It is a good tactic though, seen as how the only people you bug is those who just work mondain jobs in those places not the people who you want to bug.

I agree with Raymund. That type of nuisance protest is undemocratic, petulant and totally nonproductive. All you'd be doing is pissing off ordinary working people.

well...what if you asked the person on the phone really really REALLY nicely if we could speak to tony blair and set up, like, a million way call.....

I don't think the people are the target, it's the office where they work. If they work in that office are they not a part of that office?

Things Blair may ask himself before setting up a call like that:

Is it worth my time?
Will it stay civil?

I am sure there are more, but I am a bit angry now and really dont want to take it out on anyone here, so I will keep it short.

I just typed out a really long reply to all of this.. but the computer crashed - sign of my day..

anyway the jist of it was that if you contact your MP by letter - he is obliged to reply back to you.. he represents your views in Parlament and is also obliged to take your views to the commons. I agree that there will probably be alot of people who are going to be effected by this in thier offices.. but hey I'm sure they'll all be glad for a days holiday when the systems jam up...

I write to my MP quite alot.. cannabis (leglisation & medical - yes he knows I smoke pot), recylcing, speed limits.. there are a few more isssues too.. he always replies to me.. it may take some time - but my views are noted.. AND the speed limit out side my house has just been reduced as I've picked up too many dead cats over the years.. anyway I digress.. back tothe issue -

if you don't like it don't do it...

Tony is also obliged to listen to us - we voted him into office.. we can vote him out...
