I am with you 100% on that one Surloch.. you got it in one.
Welcome Matt.. me personally: I think theres only so much you can fit on a five minute set. Yes.. I could squeez in every move I know but I think it would get a little messy. I would rather concentrate on my best stuff and make it look as good as possible (in a non-ego kind of way).
This is something Im pretty sure Ive discussed with PK and others.. You can make some of the simplest moves look really stylish if you focus on getting the basics as near to perfect as you can. What Surloch says about using existing moves in your set is so true. Its something Ive been working on a lot recently.. going back to basics and literally starting all over again.
I wonder if others have found this.. youve been practicing you poi/staff/origami for however long.. you proudly blow your own trumpet and think youve become quite proficient at it and can bust out tons of fancy stuff; and then when you try a simple, simple two beat weave (usually one of the first and most basic things you learn) it seems a little tricky or akward. Why ?? This was how it was going for me and thats why Ive returned to beginning. Needless to say, I will be doing some simple two beat stuff in my entry.. but it'll be niiiiice two beat stuff !!!
