I feel that this is what made me cease spinning for such a long time: the lack of physical contact to other dancers because I'm too busy spinning hard and heavy objects around my body. :weave:

It's all too technical and withdrawn for me these days. I needed some balance...

There is another entire dimension to it: water contact improvisation (in the pool)... feels like going back to fish-memory ... ·٠•●♥ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵&#8]]>

Fibre 3's are easy to use, but you have to have a certain amount of strength, the biggest plus with them is the fact that because they are fibre cored and bend self straightens, You don't really need all that much cushioning unless you are planning to catch into contact the flex of the staff takes the worst of the force (although you have to be pretty smooth to stop getting bruises)

Always remember that it doesn't matter how heavy the staff is if it isn't straight then contact will be more di]]>

Fancy tapes is the uk associate of identi-tape in the states, depending on where you live. Neither one is the cheapest you can get, but they're convenient for having a variety of supplies all in one place.

Anything you use will get torn up, depending on what surface you hoop on. Grass, sand, smooth flooring: those are best.

Gaffer's tape is the standard for adhesive-backed cloth tape. Gives you a good grip and comes in a huge range of colors. Its pricey and many folks like that to be t]]>

Ok, I didn't do a proper full test on a woven bit of fabric, I just tried with a bit of bamboo wool, but even twisting it very tight, and putting a flame in the middle of the (quite thick) thread, it still caught flame very fast- say 1-2 seconds, and the bit burned up faster than I was expecting.

It didn't seem to leave a sticky melted type residue, like a plastic based thread would, but still, not much use for spinning in.]]>

My most favouritist spinner, from the little I've seen - ooh this could be a poem - is Mr McLean.

Have not actually had the pleasure of meeting yet, but he does similar things to me except better i.e. puts a staff on himself and wiggles about underneath it. In a good way.
There are lots of examples of this but the best that I can think of is turning in a circle with the staff balanced on your neck/shoulders.
I will second that that is easy enough to learn. It was the first thing Dentrassi taught me. :P

Nice post Kyle, will have to drag the staff out again and see what I can do. :)]]>
