They hurt about 20 times less then when you whack yourself with them....(guys, you know what I mean)...than if you're using heavier poi. The Dvd that comes with it gives a lot of the basics that you need to know and go at a pace that makes it easier to learn. I would recommend this item to everyone. They are a nice weight, but the balls don't hurt when they smack you... I got nailed in the eye with one trying the weave, and it shocked me more than anything.
In one week, I had learned almost all the moves in the video, and have been entertaining my friends ever since.
