This is a larger version of the Pikorua pendant.

The twist with its crisscross form represents the many paths of life and love. (It is regarded by hte Maori people as the original eternity symbol). The single twist in particular shows the joining together of two people for eternity. Even though they sometimes seperate on their own journeys, they will always come together again. It symbolises that the strength of friendship, loyalty and love will last forever. Give this to a good friend or partner.

The Maori people believed that the spirit of the wearer merged into the bone and this was evidenced by the change in colour with time when worn against the skin. These items were thus given as gifts to protect and give strength to the wearer.
