KEVLAR ® is one of the most important manmade organic fibers ever developed.
Because of its unique combination of properties, KEVLAR ® is used today
in a wide variety of industrial applications. KEVLAR ® para-aramid
fiber possesses a remarkable combination of properties that has led to
its adoption in a variety of end-uses since its commercial introduction
in the early 1970's.
Fibers of KEVLAR ® consist of long molecular chains produced from poly-paraphenylene
terephthalamide. The chains are highly oriented with strong interchain
bonding which result in a unique combination of properties

There are a number of variants
of weaves for belts or "wicks" containing KEVLAR ® brand fibre.
KEVLAR ®/Steel/Cotton, KEVLAR ®/Cotton
and KEVLAR ® coated glass fiber threads are used in a number of different
weave configurations to produce different characteristics depending on
what the end product will be used for.
These configurations effect the
wear, absorption(when used for wick) and strength of the end product.
As you have seen above there are
many uses for KEVLAR ® and you will notice that there are many different
KEVLAR ® products being offered to fire performers by a number of well
known and not so well known suppliers. This is good because you can choose
the product that best fits your requirements and purse, but you do need to
be properly informed of the make-up of the wick to make your
buying decision.
